Today we continued drilling the scissor sweep from open guard, and a variation from closed guard with an outside collar grab.

I tapped out more blues with a north south choke.  The NS choke is starting to become one of my 'gotos'. I also held pretty well against the blues (5 minute rounds).  I tapped out each of the whites a few times.

I rolled against only blues today.  No subs but I survived and was only subbed once.  At the end of practice I received my first stripe!  White belt one stripe baby!

Worked the same sub combo.  I am getting better and slightly faster.
During rolling I got 3 subs.  It happened!  It all clicked. I think my first go to sub is the kata gutame.  I also nabbed an arm bar (my 2nd sub).

The first kata and the arm bar I pulled on a relatively inexperienced white belt.  The other kata was on a 4 stripe white belt.

BJJ

We expanded on last weeks sub combo roll.  The previous combo was Kimura from guard into armlock from guard into Omoplata (roll escape) into arm bar.  Now it continues: head triangle into back mount collar choke into bow and arrow choke.  We drilled it for ~40 minutes. 

Rolling is frustrating because I can't seem to land a sub.  I was also tapped by each of my partners.  Oh well I am learning.  I am planning to go back tomorrow.  My body can finally take it!

BJJ

Today was sweet.  Renato "Babalu" Sobral visited our gym and he brought a posse of blues and purples.  We drilled a sub combo for about 20 minutes.  It starts with a Kimura attack from guard, my partner straightens his hand and I transition into a armbar from guard. Next my partner escapes his armbarred arm by pushing his other hand off my chest.  From there I take his hand on my chest and omoplata. From the omo he front roll counters and I hang on to his hand and scoot in to finish with an armbar. 

I rolled with Babalu.  He is a master.  He got me in a lapel choke and I didn't tap at first. I was trying to escape...  He tightened the choke really well and I had to tap or pass out.  

I rolled with 2 purples, 3 blues, and 1 white belt.  On the white belt I had dominate position the whole time but I still can't seem to finish out with a sub.

After the beginner class the Professor invited me to attend the advanced class.  It is a big deal for me so I happily agreed.

During the first hour we went over a DLR sweep from open guard bottom.  The Professor showed how to setup a DLR so I worked mostly on the setup.  The sweep itself is pretty neato too because I  end up in knee-on-belly (neon belly) top if I do it correctly.

During the second hour the Professor showed a DLR sweep variation for when the top guy is able to establish base.  After drilling the variation we then saw how to take the sweep through to a knee-on-belly armbar.  After some more drilling we rolled!

A purp let me work my game while defending/escaping.  He showed me a scissor sweep, but it fell out of my head already.

In BJJ we learned the straight armlock from guard.  I plan on making this move instinctually in the future.  So I even drilled it alone after class.

Also, I went up against a blue that has been out for a few weeks.  I didn't submit him, but i completely dominated the roll.  I know that rolling isn't competition, but it still feel good doing more than holding my own vs a higher belt.
