BJJ

1.5 Hours BJJ

We continued with knee on belly to kimura.  The top person pushes down the bottom persons hand (on the top person's knee) while shifting his body down back into side control.  From there lock up the kimura and switch hips toward his head.  Next take the your outside leg and lift it up and drop it to create momentum to swing the bottom person up while cranking the kimura.

After we expanded on the high mount armlock by starting from a Omoplata!  The move takes serious finesse but basically as the bottom person rolls out of the omo, the top person lets his arm rest on the bottoms back, which creates friction. Top uses this friction and swings his leg out away from the bottom persons head.  Top ends up in a high mount with the arm already almost locked up.  Top just has to lean and swivel the hips for the tap.  Money!

We learned a high mount armlock where the bottom person bear grips the top person.  Top places a foot/leg down by bottoms head (armbar setup style) while collecting and trapping the opposite side arm.  Next Top leans to the side of the foot by the head while posting base with the same side hand.  The other hand switches and secures bottoms elbow to tops upper thigh.  From there top swivels his hips and gets the tap (kimura).

Continued Omoplata from guard.  I love love the omo.  I want to make it a big part of my guard, which currently sucks.

I rolled with a new white belt.  Wow I have come a long way.  I was able to lapel choke and then arm bar him.  Progress!

Basic Triangle setup.  Armbar defense (hitchhiker).

Afterward at open roll another white 1 stripe challenged me to roll.  We went nogi and I almost locked up an anaconda.  I kept top most of the time and finished him with a north south choke.  I am slowly working my way toward 2 stripes...

I assisted at the end of the kids class. Helping little ones is fun!

We went over the steps for a triangle. From closed guard: 1. One on one grips 2. Place feet on his hips 3. Make space 4. Spider guard (foot on bicept, hold grips) one side 5. Push off remaining foot (on his up) and make yourself perpindicular while sliding the spider guard foot over his shoulder across his neck. 6. Switch hand grips while pulling his non spidered side arm across your body 7. With the free hand grab your leg and position your triangle 8. Lock up the triangle.   This whole week is dedicated to the triangle!  I am getting tapped less frequently in rolls and am also finally getting more flexible!

We continued escapes from mount. I was introduced to the swinging armbar: side control to knee on belly, underhook arm and latch on to triceps, swing all the way around his head and lay back for a tight armbar.

I rolled against 2 purples and 1 blue.  Neither of the purples tapped me out but the blue did.  I think my survival ability is increasing.   I transitioned through and ended up in some odd positions today.  Jiujitsu is amazing.

We drilled mount escapes and after that I learned how to do a triangle submish. I love the triangle and my goal now to to catch someone in one.  I keep getting caught in the guillotine and a purple reminded me to keep my head up.

Continued working sweeps from mount.  I am getting slightly better at the elbow escape but I am seriously lacking in hip mobility.

I was invited to stay for the advanced class (yes!).  In the advanced we worked sub combos and some sweeps but most of the class was rolling.

I rolled with a blue I haven't gone against before.  I ended up catching a north-south kimura!  My first kimura and it was on a blue from north-south!  I think north-south is a powerful position due to the bottom guy not being able to see what I'm up to.

Went over sweeps from the mount.  1: Trap arm and same side leg, bridge hard to trap side shoulder and roll partner.  End up in closed guard.  2: Trap arm and same side leg, bridge hard to trap side shoulder, partner posts hard with free hand, come OVER the arm and trap it, bridge hard to opposite shoulder. 3: Elbow escape from mount - bridge to shoulder, bring up elbow (keep tight) and use it to bring up the same side knee to recover half guard.  Next shrimp the opposite way to clear room for the other knee to recover the closed guard.

I worked arm bars from guard with another white belt.  I also learned the clock choke when the other person is in turtle.  A fellow white belt showed me some half guard escapes and let me work them in open roll. The underhook is king in half guard.
